(News of The South) – The Zimbabwean ruling party, ZANU-PF, has expelled four members for joining and being election candidates for various UK political parties in contrast to the Party constitution.

The decision was made following a full Executive meeting investigated and extensively discussed the matter, eventually agreeing that being a member of another political party contravenes the sacred ZANU PF constitution.
Letters in our possession written to Salome Hlupi Eric (Conservative Party), John Mpaso (Socialist Workers Party), Councillor Patrck Kadewere (Labour Party), and Jason Msindo ( Conservative Party), Kudzai Makuku dismissed for other reasons. ZANU – PF explained the Party position which the District leadership unanimously agreed to take.

According to Lazarus Nyagumbo, UK District Commissariat Secretary who wrote to the four, the expulsion is based on the ZANU-PF Constitution 2022, Article 3, Clause 20, which states that membership is lost when a member joins another party. Nyagumbo emphasized that the decision upholds constitutionalism and transparency.

The expelled members are no longer required to represent ZANU-PF in any capacity, although they are welcome to remain as ordinary non-member supporters and friends according to the letters.

Efforts to seek views of the three expelled ZANU-PF members proved futile. But one of them who did not want his identity to be disclosed confirmed having received the expulsion letter stating that he is consulting.

“Its laughable, but let me consult first before I give you accurate details,” he said.
ZANU PF UK District Chairman, Xavier Zavare refused to comment, saying he does not discuss Party issues with the media and referred us to the Party HQ.

The issue is said to have split up members within their WhatsApp groups according to one source who refused to be named for fear of reprisals.

In related news, ZANU-PF has invited all diaspora districts to its National Conference in Bulawayo slated for this month from 22nd to 27th of October 2024.

The ZANU-PF has a history of internal power struggles and splits, dating back to its formation in 1963, though has maintained its grip on power since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980.
