Zambia – Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda has told off a Journalist from British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) not to worry about the high cost of living in Zambia.
This was when the Minister was interviewed on BBC Focus on Africa, May 13, 2014 monitored by Zambian Eye on the high cost of living in Zambia. The Minister who sounded angry told the journalist to worry about the cost of living in his country and not Zambia.
Mr Chikwanda accused the Journalist who had telephoned him from London of having wrong information about Zambia’s economy which he was trying to portray to the World.
But the Journalist told Mr Chikwanda that the information he had was obtained from the current International Monetary Fund (IMF) report on Zambia. Mr Chikwanda dismissed the IMF report saying it is not always accurate.
The IMF report attributes the high cost of living in Zambia to the government’s borrowing.
Mr. Chikwanda said that the Zambian economy was on the right path adding that a weak Kwacha was benefiting the economy in some other ways.
The Minister advised the BBC Journalist to do a thorough research next time so that he can have accurate information and avoid advancing his personal views.- Zambian Eye
