Zambians and friends of Zambia from across the United Kingdom are set to come together in London for a special celebration marking 62 years of Zambia’s independence, with the official celebration promising an evening of culture, music, food and community.

The Official 62nd Zambia Independence Celebration – London 2026 will take place on 24 October 2026 at Wandsworth Civic Suite in London, bringing together members of the Zambian diaspora, friends of Zambia and UK-based partners for an evening dedicated to celebrating Zambia’s heritage and national identity.

The celebration comes as Zambians around the world reflect on the country’s journey since independence and the importance of maintaining cultural connections within the diaspora.

For Zambians living in the UK, independence celebrations provide an opportunity to bring together different generations and communities while keeping Zambian traditions, music, cuisine and cultural expression alive outside the homeland.

Organisers are promising a vibrant programme featuring live musical performances, cultural showcases, traditional dance, DJs and dancing, alongside authentic Zambian food and drinks.

The event is also expected to provide an opportunity for networking among members of the Zambian community and UK-based organisations, businesses and partners, creating a space where celebration and community engagement come together.

Independence celebrations in the diaspora often take on a special significance. While thousands of miles away from Zambia, communities abroad continue to create spaces where national traditions and memories can be shared with younger generations.

The London celebration is expected to showcase the diversity of Zambian culture while bringing people together around a shared national identity.

From traditional attire and music to food and dance, the evening will offer guests an opportunity to celebrate Zambia in a distinctly Zambian atmosphere.

The organisers are inviting guests to come dressed in either smart attire or traditional Zambian clothing, adding a strong cultural dimension to the occasion.

With the programme running from 6:00pm until late, the celebration is set to move from formal and cultural elements into an evening of music, dancing and socialising.

Zambia at 62

At 62, Zambia’s independence anniversary is more than a date on the calendar for Zambians living abroad. It is also an opportunity to reflect on identity, heritage, community and the relationship between Zambians at home and those who have made the UK their home.

The London event is expected to attract Zambians from different parts of the United Kingdom, as well as friends and supporters of Zambia who wish to join the celebrations.

For a diaspora community spread across different cities and generations, such occasions create an important meeting point — a place to reconnect with familiar traditions, introduce younger generations to their heritage and celebrate the country collectively.

The Official 62nd Zambia Independence Celebration – London 2026 will take place at:

Venue: Wandsworth Civic Suite, London
