Thursday 10 October 2013(News of the South)- Over 2.7 billion which is 40 per cent of the world’s population will be online by year end in addition to the 250million that came online in 2012,the United Nations (UN) said.
The UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) said in the year 2012 over 4.7bn of the world’s population sustained to be unconnected to the internet; however 90 per cent of them live in less developed countries.
According to ITU annual reports South Korea, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Finland and Norway in descending order leads the world’s information and communication technology (ICT).
Countries like Britain moved up the ladder by one position from number 11 to 10.
“The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg and Hong Kong also rank high, Britain nudged into the top ten from 11th position last year,” the report said.
Over 6.8bn mobile cellular subscriptions are anticipated to be connected by the end of 2013 which is almost the same population on the planet.
In addition it has been renowned that mobile broadband is now more inexpensive than fixed broadband.
ITU based in Geneva Switzerland is a specialised agency of the United Nations that is responsible for issues that concern information and communication with a membership which includes 193 member states and around 700 sector members and associates.
