Lilongwe, Malawi.(News of The South) Various abuses against women are said to be on the increase in Malawi despite several interventions to fight the abuse.
These remarks were made by Pastor Agape Mpama at the Victory Christian Temple in the city of Mzuzu during the national interdenominational prayers that were organised as one way of seeking God’s intervention towards the evil practices.
Mpama among others sighted the continuing abductions and killing of people with albinism which she said the primary loser is the woman who bore that child.
“Women are continuing to suffer various social injustices in the country which are affecting them physically and psychologically to a point of feeling like as if they are refugees in their own country.
“And now women should rise and deal with any form of injustice and there is a need for vigorous civic education and spiritual interventions because God has used women before to fight against oppression,” Mpama said.
Several speakers who prayed on the day spoke against the stripping naked of a woman in Mangochi by some political supporters which they condemned in strongest terms as disrespect to the modest of a woman.
And commenting on the grievances raised by the women in a separate interview the chairperson of the Mzuzu Civil Society Organisations Network, Pastor Moffatt Phiri sympathized with the women but was quick to point out that the church might not be preaching the right message to the people.

“Various petitions women have presented today are only the evidence that there is low religious commitment in the country hence people losing morals, and the only thing I can say is that let the church be preaching the right gospel to the people,” Phiri said.
The Amnesty International Report of 2017/18 shows that Malawi still lack the proper draft legislation which can empower women, NGOs and Civil Society Organizations on governance and Human Rights issues.
