SEASONED television talk show host, Mai Rebecca Chisamba, was honoured with a “Women’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Leadership Excellence – Special Recognition in Media and Broadcasting Excellence” at the Women’s Leadership Awards held in Harare recently.
The awards ceremony, which was held a day before the International Women’s Day, saw various women leaders from different sectors like health, business, politics, religion, tourism and environment and the media being honoured for their contributions to their communities and the nation at large.
Mai Chisamba is the face and voice behind the popular ZTV programme, Mai Chisamba Show which has been showing on the screens for many years now and on it, Mai Chisamba explores and tackles a variety of issues revolving around the home set-up right up to the top offices.
The Women’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Leadership Excellence – Special Recognition in Media and Broadcasting Excellence” is her latest achievement in a string of other awards and honours she has received over the years.
These include: Honorary Master of Arts Degree – Women’s University in Africa (2010); Outstanding Woman in the Use of Mass Media for Gender Equality Award (2012); Victor’s Awards for Outstanding Woman in Zimbabwe and Longstanding Talk Show Host (Victors Incorporation 2011 Awards); Communicator of the Year Award (2003) and the 2008 Best Television Presenter Award (Electronic) – National Journalistic and Media Awards.
Meanwhile, Gweru businesswoman and philanthropist, Dr Smelly Dube, had the biggest awards haul at the event when she was honoured with five awards.
THESE were in the categories of “Business Leadership Excellence”, ” Women’s Top Business Leader of the Year – Special Recognition in Leadership Excellence,” “Women’s Top Business Leader of the Year – National,” “Women’s Top Business Leader of the Year – Special Recognition in Construction & Real Estate Leadership Excellence” and ” Women’s Top Female Leadership Excellence CEO of the Year Award”.
Last year, Dr Dube was the reigning Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year. She is the owner River Valley Properties which developed thousands of stands apart from constructing houses across the country.
Audrey Tasaranarwo, who is Chitungwiza Central Hospital’s Public Relations Officer, walked away with the “Top Business Leader of the Year Award – Special Recognition in Public Relations and Community Development Excellence” for her contribution to the development of the community that the hospital serves.
