Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) -Continuous shortage of water and sewage burst in Chitungwiza has become a health time bomb in the dormitory town as residents for their health, News of the South can report.
A survey by the publication reveals that residents in Chitungwiza are suffering from the shortage of water and the sewage bursts.
Chitungwiza water problems
Chitungwiza Mayor Lovermore Maiko said the water crisis in our town has reached alarming levels.
“Honestly the water crisis in our town has reached alarming levels, its a disaster, ” he said.
“Harare is supplying us with enough water as they are also battling the crisis and the water table has gone down, thus boreholes are not helping the situation its a pity we still maintain our position that as a local authority we must have our own source of water with that the crisis will remain in place, ” Maiko said.
Maiko also speaks on the issue of the sewage burst that has become another health hazard to residents in the town.
“As for sewer, this has been a perennial problem our hope is the ADB funds will help our situation as our sewer network system has collapsed. The project was supposed to have kicked started sometime back but was set back as a result of the pandemic thus COVID 19 however some process to ensure it carries on are ongoing, ” he said.
Chitungwiza water problems
Speaking to a resident told the publication that we no longer fear of COVID -19 but of Cholera and diarrhea.
“Coronavirus it’s nothing to us we only fear for cholera and it kills more than coronavirus. We need water and the sewage bursts must be maintained, ” she said.
