Bulawayo (News of The South) – The ZIMBABWEAN Warriors are expected to regroup on the 27th of December 2020 to intensify their preparations for the Chan finals to be held from the 16th of January to the 7th of February next year in Cameroon. The Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic and his troops took a break for the Christmas holidays.

Initially, Zdravko has a provisional squad with 34 members but a number of players has been dropped whereas an equivalent number has been brought in as replacements. Although the squad will be trimmed in line with the Chan squad regulations. The coach is still assessing players who can fit into his style of play, philosophy and quick adaption as quickly as possible and taking in those who can grasp the concepts and basics of the game as per the coache’s will given the short time frame to assemble a formidable squad before they depart to Cameroon.

The Croatian has been criticized for chopping and changing his squad time and again. Pundits and fans will always cry foul or criticize as public opinion. In the Afcon qualifiers Zdravko failed to get enough friendly matches in order to select the players he needed prior to the game against the Desert Foxes of Algeria, he only played against the Flames of Malawi, he took charge of the Warriors as head coach in February unfortunately due to the Corona virus all football and other sporting activities were indefinitely suspended therefore he had no knowledge of which player to take on board to the squad,he was assisted by his technical staff to assemble the squad. Now Zdravko is trying to assess the players by himself he is being probed and criticized.

The Warriors gaffer Zdravko must be given a chance to take aboard or select the players that he needs to avoid player imposition by other influential stakeholders besides his overall decision as the head coach.

The Warriors has so far played quite a number of practice matches against local clubs that is Caps United, Ngezi Platinum,Dynamos FC, Bulawayo Chiefs and Herentals just to mention but a few before their Christmas holiday break.

The Chan tournament is exclusively for players plying their trade in the domestic league. The Warriors are in group A along the hosts Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Mali. The Warriors are going to play their opening campaign match against the host, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon before facing the Stallions of Burkina Faso in their second match and cap up their group match against the Eagles of Mali.

Logarusic is expected to trim his squad to 23,the number of players that will travel to Cameroon for the tournament. They are expected to send their squad(list) at least 10days before the resumption of the tournament. On the 28 of December, the team is expected to intensify the preparations with the required and selected players whereby they will start working on combinations and tactical play until they leave for the Chan tournament.
