Malawi(News of The South) – A man who is believed to have transferred the name of the former vice president of Malawi from the capital city, Lilongwe to the Island of Likoma in the voter’s Roll, Saidi Kadango has died in a mysterious car accident.
The accident occurred at Linthipe in Dedza District when he was travelling from the capital city to Chikwawa after he fulfilled his court bail requirements.
Although the police have confirmed the death of Kadango some required details of the accident still remain sketchy.
Kadango was answering charges of tampering with the electoral voter’s roll which is an infringement of the country’s Electoral laws.
And elsewhere, the police in the capital city has also confirmed the arrest of the vice chairperson of the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Gift Trapenzi for what is described as fraudulent acts.
Trapenzi is reported to have collected money from the donor community, UNAIDS for a meeting which never took place, and it is alleged that he presented fake receipts to cover the expenditure of the money.
And there is still no immediate reaction from the leadership of the HRDC on the issue, but some quarters have already complained that this is a ploy aimed at silencing the HRDC leaders who led the violent demonstrations which parallysed economic Activities in all the major cities of the country.
Malawi is going through difficult political times following the May 21st presidential election which some observers say was very much mismanaged by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), and the results are being challenged in the court of law by the opposition parties.
