It’s almost time to know the identity of the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 champions with the games set to end on Sunday.

The 16 teams have all completed their Preliminaries Stage Two games, and across the remaining three days of competition, we’ll find out who finishes where, who will get through to our medal matches and, most importantly, who will lift the World Cup trophy!




Ahead of a fantastic finale, here’s a recap of the latest action from Liverpool…

THE STORY SO FAR

England, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand all came through their Preliminaries Stage One groups unbeaten, while Zimbabwe well and truly announced themselves on the World Cup stage, winning the hearts of neutrals as they progressed through their debut campaign in the competition.

Preliminaries Stage Two is complete and we now look forward to a mouth-watering set of fixtures as the business end of the tournament approaches. Host nation England have booked their place in Saturday’s semi-finals and will take on four-time champions New Zealand, while Australia will face South Africa as they look to successfully defend their 2015 title.

PLAY-OFFS AND PLACINGS FIXTURES

There’s more netball to look forward to tomorrow as the play-offs and placings get underway. Group E will conclude with Fiji taking on Samoa for 13th place and Sri Lanka battling with Singapore for 15th place.

In the afternoon Malawi will play African rivals Uganda and Jamaica will take on Zimbabwe for a place in Sunday’s fifth-place play-off.

IT’S A CENTURY FOR GARY

One of netball’s most recognisable figures in white, Gary Burgess marked a rare and significant milestone when he umpired the Northern Ireland v Malawi clash on Monday to become one of four umpires to reach a landmark 100 international test matches.

Gary’s illustrious 20-year career includes three World Cup finals and two Commonwealth Games gold medal matches.
