Harare, Zimbabwe (News Of The South) – Netherlands based musician, Vimbai Zimuto is in the country for a video shoot of her single ‘Ziso rekona’, a song rich with substance and culture.
Her project, which is coinciding with the National Culture Week which has been launched earlier today by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, CDE ED Mnangangwa together with a hype of Cultural exchange activities happening between Zimbabwe and China.
In an interview with News Of The South, Vimbai said the video portrays a boy, love struck who is making advances on a girl and is trying desperately to catch the girl’s attention as he looks at her with the corner of an eye. In this video Vimbai said she was trying to bring out the Zimbabwean cultural way of proposing love especially now that it is being dissolved by technology.
“This a typical Zimbabwean cultural way of doing things, how boys used to chase after girls, how a boy would try to steal a girl’s attention and look at her with the corner of an eye before the advent of social media,” She said.
She also said the launch of the National Cultural Week will be a very important platform to reflect on culture and help people to rediscover themselves culturally. She also said it is that time when Zimbabweans should look at the things they have achieved and lost as a nation to begin appreciating who they are before outsiders can do that for them.
“These cultural initiatives are really important because they give us a platform to reflect on our culture, it’s a time for us to look at the things we have achieved and lost and be able to appreciate ourselves before anyone from outside can do that for us,” she said.
Earlier this year, the songstress was embroiled in a social media meltdown after she splashed her nude photos on internet which she vehemently defended saying it was just a display of pure art.
