Harare based upcoming jazz outfit, Ngwenga, is this Friday set to perform at Book Café at the rebranded October World Music Festival which kicked off in Zimbabwe last Friday.

The 1 year old youthful band, Ngwenga, which was selected to perform at this prestigious festival after winning an audition which had 7 other upcoming groups, will be dazzling the stage with world-class Victoria Falls band Mukoomba.
“We are happy to be sharing stage with one of the best bands in the country so far, this shows that we are also in that category.”
“I want to assure everyone who will be attending the show that we are going to give them value for their money,” said Ngwenga`s 18 year old saxophonist, Steven Nyoni.
The nine member band`s leader Kirby Chipembere believes they have what it takes to make it in the music circles as he says he has a wonderful talented team which can play anything.
“I have a wonderful team at my disposal and I can safely say that we have the stamina and the capacity to do big things in this highly contested music industry of ours,” said Chipembere.
The youthful band`s professional delivery, powerful lyrics, tight performances and exciting blend of African rhythms has won them admirers and caused many to say that they were the next big thing in the music industry.
This year’s edition of the festival is expected to deepen the cultural exchanges between Zimbabwe and Italy as well as other countries that have been roped in namely; South Africa and Mozambique.
Organisers of the event, which started in 2006, have incorporated other genres to widen the number of participants, some of the artists to perform include Hope Masike, Alick Macheso, Victor Kunonga, Munya Matarutse, Tsvete, to mention but a few.
The festival that will end on the 20th of October will visit four venues namely; the Italian Club, the Book Café, Reps Theatre and Misty’s.
Festival organisers have also included music training workshops to be held at the Mbira Centre, Pakare Paye and the Zimbabwe College of Music to enable artistes to get better appreciation of the Zimbabwe music industry.
