Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Zimbabwe Defence minister Sydney Sekeramayi’s wife, Tsitsi Sekeramayi, has castigated Zimbabweans for their poor handling of the US currency since its inception in 2009 citing that as the chief cause for the current cash crisis.
Speaking in the capital Harare at a function hosted by the Women Heritage Society World Organisation (WHSWO) to give awards to outstanding female movers and shakers, the businesswomen accused Zimbabweans of failing to appreciate the true value of the currency.
“We allowed ourselves to be scammed by those around us because we failed to appreciate the value of the US dollar”.
“Whenever we heard that they were clothes from be it China or Dubai we rushed to buy not knowing that all that money was not coming back. Now look where we are?’ she said.
The former senator for Marondera-Hwedza said the prevailing situation now required astuteness in business such as she has.
“I maintain a low profile whilst doing my business and though you have not seen me or heard much about me I will be there doing my business”.
“But if you go down there in Bema valley or Guruve the people there know all about me because that where I do my business”, she said.
It has since promised bond notes in October as a way of mitigating the problem,
The WHSWO was offering awards to local female achievers in various areas.
Pastor Bonnie Deuschle won the top award for outstanding female leader in Christianity whilst Pastor Florence Kanyati won the Lifetime version of the same category.
Busi Dube won the outstanding female in the health sector whilst ZiFM’s Susan Makore won the outstanding female in the broadcasting media.
Notable attendees at the function included Minister of Gender Nyasha Chikwinya and prominent television personality and talk show-host Rebecca Chisamba
