(News Of The South) – If you are someone who reads much, you will realize that there are many people out there on the internet trying to help up people. I know, I am one of them and have written so much about that. But all advice out there may not be what you are looking for or what will work for you, and for that reason, you must go with your gut.
For starters, studies show that, the gut feeling is usually accurate and correct, giving it more reason to trust it in situations where a quick decision has to be made. Why some people don’t even truth their own gut is simply confusing to me. The gut feeling is our own God given in-house counsel, who is supposed to guide us during tough times.
Whichever way we decide, depending on our decision making process, before we even embark on the journey of making a decision, we would have a certain inclination towards one way over the other.
First of all, there are many contradicting advices out there. One will say this, and the other the total opposite, if you rely solely on their advice, you will face a difficult time making a decision as you will weigh the pros and cons of each side of the story. That’s the general nature of decision making process, looking at each and every option available, and taking the best, but sometimes you don’t need all that, you just need the first thing that comes to mind.
Secondly, the people with the advice may have a different situation as yours and thus their advice may not work on you. Geographical distance, age, time, financial status, and education are just some of the circumstances that may difference between you and the person giving you the advice. How are you supposed to know, given the difference in your circumstances, that their advice will work on you? This creates a situation of doubt, which is a position you aren’t supposed to be in when you are trying to make a decision.
Some issues don’t even need consulting and getting advice from others. They just require us to go with the first thing that comes to mind. The vast accessibility to internet and social media has made some people more dependent on what others have to say. Posting their problems all over their social media timelines and taking whatever advice Jack and Jill who will comment on them have to say. This is all wrong, before the internet, people have been making sound decisions; this shouldn’t change just because it’s easier to get hold of someone many miles away.
It’s always good to consult, there are, many people who know more than you. It doesn’t hurt to see what it is they have to say to your problems, their solutions maybe exactly what you will be looking for. But it doesn’t hurt to go with your gut either. Sometimes, decisions have to be more original, and not something someone out there believes to be the best way to go.
Olivia Pope, the famous fictional character on the hit US TV series Scandal, is well known for trusting and going with her gut, which as the show suggests, is one of the major reason for her success in her crisis management work in the series.
So the next time you have a decision to make, listening discerning voice inside of you, for that gut feeling will guide you to the best decision ever. Even if it’s not all good, better to know it was your own original decision that failed you, than to live life blaming others for feeding you bad advice.
