Below is a detailed interview concerning the show.

(Takudzwa Mashumba, NOTS), (Fungai Chiposi, Proudly Zimbabwean – FC)

NOTS: What exactly is Fashion from Trash Show?

FC: TraShion is a fashion show with a difference; all clothing items that will be modelled will be made from ordinary trash items. We have challenged upcoming and established fashion designers to come up with outfits made from trash. They are working with materials such as paper, metals and plastics. Currently 8 designers have come up with 30 outfits that we are still assessing for the show.

NOTS: What are your expectations for the show?

FC: We expect this show to awaken the recycling mentality in our society and designers. Through this awakening, we hope that people will begin to see the value of ordinary waste and support such initiatives as separation from source at household level.

NOTS: How far have you gone with the preparations for the show?

FC: Preparations are at an advanced stage, the venue is still being prepared for the event . Models have been selected and measured for outfits.

Designers from both Harare and Bulawayo are working on their outfits for the event.

NOTS: What challenges are you facing in organizing such a big event?

FC: The biggest challenge we are facing is trying to get funding for the event from the corporate community. We are still hoping to secure one more sponsor so that the costs for the event are fully covered including prize money for the winning designers.

NOTS: Who are your target audience for the show and what can the audience expect from the show?

F.C: We are targeting the middle to high income earners in our society who will fully appreciate’re-using and recycling at this level. The audience should expect to be wowed by the ideas and the designs from our local designers.

NOTS: What message do you have to people both local and international about TraShion?

FC: Littering is personal responsibility, we choose as individuals to drop litter and infect our environment. Let us stop this bad culture and preserve our environment.
