Harare. (News of The South) – Harare South residents have every reason to smile after a kind gesture following a local organisation on Wednesday.
Tonganyika Trust which was founded two years ago and is led by Tongai Mnangagwa opened a clinic which is going to serve more than 20 000 people from the area.
MaxiHelp Clinic director Christina Matizha said the help by Tonganyika Trust is going a long way in curbing the rife of home –deliveries in the area which are detrimental to health.
“This area has many pregnant women who are giving birth at home and this present them with innumerable conditions as most of these are done under very unhealthy environments so by having a clinic that provide Pre-Natal Care and Ante-Natal Care it is a reprieve for most of the women here ,”cited Matizha.
She pleaded with the organisation to consider building a maternity home at the clinic to completely ease the burden of the expecting mothers in the area.
“While we have all other services for pregnant women , we still lack a maternity home that will shelter expecting mothers and it is my plea that Tonganyika Trust will look into that,” pleaded the MaxiHelp boss.
Tongai Mnangagwa said the trust has plans to build 10 private clinics in the area which will be providing the basic health services at very affordable prices.
“The main thrust of our organisation is to improve people’s livelihoods so we intend to build 9 more clinics that will be offering services at rates that will be the same or even less with council and government clinics,” explained Mnangagwa who happen to be a nephew of the incumbent president.
Tapiwa Jerahuni of Harare South said the clinic is going to be handy in their lives as many people in the area have been struggling to access health services because most of the health centres are located far away.
“We are delighted as a community that we will no longer have to folk out transport money on top of consultation fee to access health as this new clinic is within our vicinity,” said a delighted Jerahuni.
Harare South is a sprawling suburb that is highly populated but lacks basic social amenities.
