LEICESTER (England) (News of The South) – THOMAS MAPFUMO, Zimbabwe’s Chimurenga music star proved his critics wrong when he single-handedly rocked his UK fans from midnight until early hours of Sunday with only a single break.
His adoring Zimbabwe and his ever loyal UK fans relived the happy days of Chimurenga music on a night out in the heart of Leicester City.
The fans, who could have been in the region of 3000 at Athena Hall, showed Mukanya’s stuff was pure old gold they freely recorded on smartphones.
They kept cheering him on and calling for more familiar old hits. Bhutsu Mutandarika, that old hit could have drawn the loudest cheers sending more fans to the dance floor.
This living legend’s one off show tour in UK proved he still had sustainable energy to last all night on his own on stage. There was no choice apparently. Mapfumo was billed to share the Leicester show with another Zimbabwe music star, Aleck Macheso, who cancelled the date at the last minute. Reasons were not explained to fans who were demanding half price tickets.
That became the only discord to this top shelf show.
The show organisers flatly refused to offer any half tickets entertainment at the only cash payment entry gate.
One fan told News of the South that they had been sent away for arguing that because of Aleck Macheso’s lack of appearance, the show had to be half priced.
Mukanya’s side also argued that his performance exceeded his allocated time slot and was entitled to full payment.
In an interview Mapfumo told News of the South he was determined to continue releasing new hits as he has been doing in his decades old career. See videos below:
