Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Zimbabwe, a nation deeply rooted in its spiritual heritage, finds itself grappling with a multitude of challenges. Yet, amidst the political and socio-economic turmoil, a significant segment of its society remains conspicuously silent: its traditional leaders. With an estimated 300 traditional Chiefs, alongside a complex hierarchy of national, clan, and family spirit mediums, and the ever-present influence of traditional healers, Zimbabwe possesses a rich tapestry of indigenous governance and spiritual guidance.

The current crisis presents a critical juncture where the wisdom and authority of these custodians of culture are desperately needed.
For too long, the voices of the traditional leaders have been muted in the national discourse surrounding the country’s problems. While political factions clash and economic hardship bites, the very individuals entrusted with upholding the spiritual and cultural well-being of their communities have largely remained on the periphery. This silence has created a palpable vacuum, a lack of the spiritual compass that has historically guided Zimbabwean society through times of difficulty.

Now, as Zimbabwe seemingly “burns like a hot pot,” the time for this silence to be broken is long overdue. The traditional leaders, the inheritors of ancestral wisdom and the guardians of the land’s spiritual essence, have a profound role to play in navigating this turbulent period. Their authority, derived from generations of tradition and a deep connection to the spiritual realm, holds the potential to offer a unique perspective and a path towards healing and reconciliation that conventional political avenues may not be able to provide.

The call is clear, Zimbabwe’s traditional Chiefs must assemble. They must convene, not as political actors, but as the spiritual and cultural custodians of the nation. A national Bira, a traditional spiritual gathering, is urgently needed. This assembly would serve as a crucial platform for deep consultation, allowing the traditional leaders and spirit mediums to collectively investigate the root causes of the nation’s current woes. Through ancestral guidance and spiritual insight, they can seek to understand the underlying imbalances and identify the necessary steps for restoration and harmony.

Imagine the power of such a gathering. Chiefs from across the land, representing diverse communities and lineages, coming together with their spirit mediums to invoke ancestral wisdom. The national Bira would be a space for introspection, for acknowledging past transgressions, and for seeking spiritual guidance on how to move forward as a united nation. It would offer a counterbalance to the often divisive rhetoric of political discourse, grounding the nation in its shared cultural and spiritual values.

The absence of this spiritual guidance has left a void that is keenly felt. Zimbabweans, by their very nature, are a people who value their spiritual connections. In times of crisis, they have historically turned to their traditional leaders and spirit mediums for solace, direction, and healing. The current silence leaves many feeling adrift, lacking the spiritual anchor they have long relied upon.
Therefore, this is a moment for courage and decisive action. Traditional Chiefs, the time for quiet observation has passed. Your communities yearn to hear your voices, to witness your leadership in this time of turmoil.

Rise to the occasion. Initiate the necessary consultations. Organize the national Bira. Investigate the spiritual and cultural dimensions of the challenges facing Zimbabwe.
Your role is not to engage in partisan politics, but to offer a higher form of guidance, rooted in the enduring wisdom of Zimbabwean tradition. By activating this dormant power, you can provide the spiritual leadership that is so desperately lacking and contribute to charting a course towards peace, stability, and healing for the nation. Zimbabwe awaits your voice. It is time to speak. It is time to act.
