Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-The renovation of the shrine of Jesus in Jerusalem has finished after a nine-month restoration costing $3.7million (£3million) and the results are a spectacle according to a Daily Star report.

The shrine was officially opened on Wednesday after months of waiting, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was opened for people to go inside.

According to the report, for the first time, visitors will be able to see the ancient burial cave of Jesus and the entire structure has been cleaned and painstakingly restored, allowing people to see the beautiful wall markings and colours.

Antonia Moropoulou, the chief renovator, told AFP: “Before this the monument was black.

“This is the actual colour of the monument, the colour of hope.

“The deformations of the holy edicule are addressed and the structural integrity is assured.”

Last year, the religious community went into meltdown when tomb restorers said they had found the original burial spot of Jesus.

The announcement made headlines around the world as experts gushed about the incredible find.

But whether the site is the actual burial place of Christ is hotly disputed, with some claiming his remains lie in the Garden Tomb outside Jerusalem’s Old City.
