Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South)- April 8, 2025 – A prominent figure known as “Nyoka yemabhunu,” reportedly a former member of the Zimbabwean Zanu-PF party, has been increasingly vocal from his base in South Africa, providing updates and commentary on the unfolding political situation in Zimbabwe. While his identity remains somewhat shrouded in mystery, his influence has grown significantly, particularly since the emergence of the “Geza-led protests.”

Many Zimbabweans reportedly began to take notice of Jeremiah Masawi aka “Nyoka yemabhunu” as the calls for demonstrations, spearheaded by a war veteran named Blessed Geza, gained momentum. Geza, a former ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has recently become a vocal critic, accusing the president and his inner circle of corruption and expressing opposition to any attempts to extend Mnangagwa’s rule beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms.
The protests, which saw a notable demonstration on March 31st and a subsequent stay-away, have highlighted growing tensions within Zimbabwe, even within the ruling Zanu-PF party. While the mass participation Geza called for did not fully materialize due to a heavy police presence and a reported reluctance from some citizens amidst fears of violence, the events underscored a significant level of discontent.
“Nyoka yemabhunu” has actively used social media platforms to amplify these sentiments, offering his analysis of the situation and often criticizing the current government. His commentary appears to resonate with a segment of the Zimbabwean population, particularly those who feel disillusioned with the current political and economic climate.

Information regarding “Nyoka yemabhunu’s” past activities within Zanu-PF and his reasons for being based in South Africa are not readily available. However, his online commentary suggests a degree of political understanding and articulation that some observers have noted.

The “Geza-led protests” themselves represent a significant development. Blessed Geza, once a supporter of President Mnangagwa, has become a key figure in the calls for his resignation. Geza’s criticism gained traction after he released videos denouncing corruption and what he perceives as Mnangagwa’s attempts to cling to power beyond 2028. While the March 31st protests did not achieve widespread participation, they did lead to arrests and a visible security presence in major cities.
The long-term impact of these protests and the role of figures like “Nyoka yemabhunu” remain to be seen. However, they undeniably point to a period of heightened political tension and uncertainty in Zimbabwe as the country approaches the next election cycle.
