Harare, Zimbabwe. (News Of The South) – MDC- T Leader Morgan Tsvangirai and former Vice President Mai Mujuru in a two pronged Janus head of opposition power backed by the coalition of Simba Makoni, Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, Dabengwa, but no Madhuku please, it’s the opposition utopia.

A convergence of everything good and bad about Zimbabwean politics today.

It’s the grand coalition that won’t come. The frenetic midnight convergence of lusty bodies intent to expunge the last remaining virility before the sun comes out with limitations, prohibitions and modesty.

Asked why he no longer supported Tsvangirai, 15 billion diamond protester, Fagio Marowa said something has died in the veteran opposition leader.

He could not put a name to what it is that Tsvangirai has lost but he was adamant the man is now a shadow of the swashbuckling labour union beast of the early 2000’s.

Despite the recent staggering mass demonstration which Tsvangirai led the vibe has faded in the man. He still commands respect, he still draws crowds but his halo has lost light on the edges. It shines but it’s the shine of a sunset.

However one feels that there is still a little life in him that could work out something during the watershed 2018 elections.

The past elections were described as a watershed by some quarters, and they proved to be nothing more than nothing. The usual happened. The usual complained. The usual remained.
2018 however has a real watershed shade to it.

Tables have turned in the ruling ZANU PF where the bickering and frenetic fighting of the vultures speaks of smelt dead meat. Something died or is about to die and they are grovelling for the high pedestal. This in itself makes 2018 a watershed year.
However to complete the watershed set-up there is need for a Grand Coalition of the opposition. A team of the bedraggled, the tired, the veterans and the stoic, union of opposition elements still intent on changing the set-up of Zimbabwean politics.

Talk of Grand Coalition of opposition has been going on and on for some time now.
During some moments it seems it’s around the bend of the next month. They are having crucial midnight meetings and soon the mysterious animal called Grand Coalition will walk the streets.

In December Bishop Ancelimo Magaya a cleric leading in the processes towards a political marriage of the anti-Mugabe hoarde gave a hint of results to the media.

“Yes, I can confirm that People First signed a Nera document on Tuesday through Didymus Mutasa”.
“We have talked to a number of different political parties. I have been to the offices of the People’s Democratic Party and those of the Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe”.

“The whole idea behind this effort is to make sure that Zimbabweans put aside their small differences and start to concentrate on the bigger picture”, he said.
The forthcoming GC never came to fruition as 2015 ended. This January Rugare Gumbo told the media that Tsvangirai was making overtures for a GC with Mai Mujuru.

“They have been pushing for a meeting of the two leaders, but we are yet to launch a party, she does not have the people’s mandate as yet and it would be difficult to see the capacity in which she would meet him”, he said.

A democracy-couched statement of the hero fearing to over-step the boundary of her people given mission. She wanted the voice of the masses to command her into action.
This is April and the GC is becoming a fabled union. A late night tale that we use to digest our meals whilst waiting for the soothing arms of sleep to take us to tomorrow.

When the GC will materialise we don’t know as politicians sometimes simply love to talk themselves onto the podium of attention without anything material happening. The GC talk has outlived its excitement generating capacity and its time something concrete happened.
The different shards of the opposition can never win a Zimbabwean election in this era. Once it was then when Tsvangirai took it and lost to a technicality, of all things, and after all he has gone through losing to a soulless, vapid technicality.

2018 beckons for a GC and it`s high time the opposition took real action and not media podiums, and came up with a united front that gives their supporters a real movement to back.
The GC will never be the pious assembly of the halo-ed. That’s the defect and truth of the situation.
All the opposition party leaders are hiccupping, limping and maimed products of some mistake or fault and should never be expected to glow in the embrace when they come together.

They should simply be accepted as the practical need to fart despite the bad smell and their union may see the gaseous release of stifled energies that we were waiting for as a nation to glow again from the renewable energy of resurrected lives.
