(News if The South) – The Gems continue to salvage lost pride after thumping Singapore 68-40 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, today.

The victory was Zimbabwe’s second at the completion after also walloping Sri Lanka on Monday in the placement matches.
Zimbabwe is out of the main completion after losing its three group matches to World’s highest ranked team Australia, seventh placed Tonga and minnows Fiji.

Zimbabwe has beaten all the teams they have faced that are ranked lower than them save for Fiji which shocked the Gems.
After failing to meet its targets of a top four finish, the technical department is now focused on maintaining a higher ranking for the national team.

Assistant coach Tatenda Shinya believes continued exposure wil help the team improve.
“ At a world cup a win is a win, yes this is not where we wanted to be but now we are fighting to maintain a high world ranking so that we stick with the big girls of World netball, the more we play these teams the better for us so we need to remain with them,” he said.

The coaches kept faith in the young team that dismantled Sri Lanka in the previous match and once again the youngsters showed their hunger and tenacity and were first to every ball and made sure they collect every loose ball.
Captain Felistus Kwanga and her defensive partners Assa Zimusi and Elizabeth Mushore put up a good show and denied the Asians any place in Zimbabwe’s goal area.

Mushore nicknamed ‘Stretch’ for her flexibility was eventually named player of the match.
Zimbabwe takes on Barbados this Friday for the 13th place play off.
