Malawi (News of The South) The match fixing scandal involving the Malawi national team popularly known as the flames who travelled to the 2010 Angola Africa Cup of Nations is refusing to die following new revelations that six boys pocketed a total of Mk270 million ($364 864.86) to betray the nation.
Football commentators in the country Julius Mithi and Higger Mkandawire lashed the country’s football governing body (FAM) to institute a commission of enquiry to probe all the players and officials who were part of the 2010 Malawi national team that travelled to the Angola Cup of Nations (Afcon) soccer festival.
The former flames midfielder, Hellings Mwakasungula who is already banned by the international football governing body (FIFA) is reported to be the masterminder behind the clandestine activity.
Mwakasungula connived with Wilson Radge Bayroumol who is a well know global match fixer, but now working with FIFA in probing match fixing scandals.
The two soccer commentators said FAM would have instituted it’s own investigations upon noticing that some of it’s players and officials were involved in match fixing scandals.
“FAM should not wait for FIFA findings, let even those who led the team to the Afcon 2010 face the music, and it’s very unfortunate that none of the players involved in those clandestine activities got rich,” Mithi said.
Commenting on the same the former Nyasa Big Bullets general Secretary, Higger Mkandawire said “if names are being mentioned let Chiwembe (Malawi Football Headquarters) take to task or investigate the players and officials who were in that squad.”
FIFA is expected to release another report on alleged match scandals involving the 2010 Malawi national team players who travelled to Angola in the next three months.
Similar match fixing allegations are also reported to have rocked the Zimbabwe national team that travelled to this year’s Africa Cup of Nations still under way in Egypt.
