The Devil’s Advocate Donald Trump Who Killed My Fantasy

0 0Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-The Trump topic should have become a tired tale by now.
There are more issues to discuss in this sick world (Terrorists, Big Brother Africa, Beyoncé’s pregnancy etc). Yet the man continues to defy logic and trends as he did with electoral barometers and predictions.
He remains a subject of interest every day especially as he seems on the warpath to dashing my childhood dream.
Each passing day and each implemented action by the new American administration he leads is validating the inkling that after so many years looking down upon Africa, America may have just landed herself a white dictator.
The latest impediment to fall on his path with a divergent perception to his own, Attorney General Sally Yates, has been swiftly swatted away and out of the State Department in the very manner that defines iron leaders across the world.
African dictators of renown have been known to surround themselves with like-minded comrades who question little and vomit whatever sludge they are fed.
The refusal to accept community with divergent views and approaches has always created binaries in many African countries with the ruling status quo living and operating with a vivid conviction about their modus operandi whilst the rest of the country is gnashing teeth with pain to kick them out.
Recently Parliamentarians from Zimbabwe called for an audience with President Mugabe whom they said is living in a land of falsehoods which he is being fed by his cohorts sucking a living off his geriatric rule.
Trump is seemingly on the same path, building an empire in which he shall be surrounded by feeble parrots who add nothing to his eccentricity.
The ban on people from 7 predominantly Muslim nations is a testament to his being a ‘principled’ leader who stands by his word, however warped and demented. The umbrella approach to a shutting out terrorists has been dismissed by the generality of Americans.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on the January 30-31 revealed that less than a third of the Americans believe that will help protect the United States from terrorism.
Some 31 percent of the people said the ban made them feel ‘more safe’ while 26 percent said it made them feel ‘less safe’. Another 33 percent said it would not make any difference and the rest said they don’t know.
Trump has however been adamant that it will work.
“This is not about religion. This is about terror and keeping our country safe”, he said on Friday.
The move has however gone against the grain of what America has stood for from the time expatriates refugees fled there from across the world.
Despite the many political conflicts which succeeding adminstrations have become enmeshed in, from the Vietnam War, past the Bay of Pigs in Cuba to the Iraq Weapons of Mass Destruction debacle and the Syrian conundrum, America has always been a refugee place for many nationals.
Political expatriates, refugees and dream seekers have all hungered and pined for the Statue of Liberty.
The basic infantile lust for greatness for many of us growing up had an American tinge to it and its fulfillment always happened somewhere on the vast continent of the American empire.
That Trump has come up and dashed it smacks of a turn in history for many such like-minded individuals in the Islamic countries caught in the web of his paranoia. We now have to frame our dreams differently.
Instead of fantasizing about the great American dream its high time we crafted a Chinese fantasy walking along the Chinese Wall while eating sushi since Trump is getting busy erecting a barricade wall to shut the rest of the world out.
