Chivi, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) The state of roads in Zimbabwe is the talk of everyday and the roads need large amounts of money to be rehabilitated and in addition the poor roads have contributed to the accidents which happen nearly everyday.
The Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe road which was constructed in Zimbabwe the early 90s by a Chinese company China Gansu is in a state of sorry.
You cannot travel a distance of a kilometer without seeing potholes which are everywhere in the road.The road was constructed from Chivi Turn Off via Mhandamabwe to Shurugwi.And it cannot be compared with the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway which has less potholes although it is prone to accidents due to high number of vehicles which travel along the road.
The government of Zimbabwe through ministry of transport and ministry of local government is failing to rehabilitate the road despite local government having large amounts of money which they get through sale of stands to people. For one to own a stand it costs $4500 for residential and almost $6000 for commercial stands.However they purchase luxurious cars which are used by Chief Executive Officers and council chairpersons.Much to the amazement of the residents and local communities which are living in fear of travelling because of the bad state of roads.
