Lilongwe. Malawi (News Of The South) – The Malawi Union of the Blind (MUB) has appealed to the Malawi electoral commission MEC to ensure that tack tile ballot guides have been provided in all the polling centres across the country during this year’s tripartite elections
The Executive Director of the MUB who is also the president of the African Federation of the Deafblind, Ezekiel Kumwenda made the appeal at Kapija Primary school of Mbalachanda in Mzimba district when his organization was officially closing the voter civic education exercise in readiness for the elections.

Kumwenda said the electoral body should be aware that tack tile ballot guides are the only instruments which shall enable those with visual imparedness to identify the candidate of their choice on the ballot unlike being guided by someone who can easily cheat them.

“As one of the accredited voter civic education institutions we are officially closing the voter civic education exercise here in Mzimba district but let me appeal to the electoral body to ensure that tack tile ballot guides are made available in all the polling centres across the country.

“We have trained those with visual challenges to use these tack tile ballot guides so that they should be able to vote on their own without the assistance of anyone who can easily deceive them in the polling booth,” Kumwenda said.
In his remarks one of the participants At the training for those with visual challenges Leston Chagamba commended the Malawi Union for the Blind for what he described as a timely intervention into the voting procedures.

“I am very happy that now I shall be able to identify whom to vote for on the ballot paper unlike in the past when some selfish presiding officers could deliberately misguide us,” Chagamba,” said.

The Malawi Union for the Blind have conducted the voter civic education exercise with funding from a number of development partners which include the African Federation of the Deaf-blind, Abilis Foundation of Finland and the Malawi Electoral Commission NEC
