That rare Gem
We once knew a Gem so rare
She was an epitome of love and care
To us she was and will forever be the best
She stood shoulder to shoulder with the finest
Her bubbling laughter was her trademark
Echoing across the netball court leaving an indelible mark
We might have failed fully to appreciate this rare Gem
And all the effort was exerted on blame
Maybe we could have done better
Instead of pushing it for later
What made her tick we knew not
Then we successfully tied a limitation knot
Despite all obstacles she left an unquestionable legacy
Coupled with regional and international diplomacy
Like it or not we have to acknowledge that and accept
All her promises she has kept
With her talent she has religiously served
Paths to follow for upcoming athletes she has paved
The support she needed we failed to give enough
Which is quite unfortunate and tough
Somehow this rare Gem proved she had impact annointing
That we may all have been avoiding
Hopefully if we happen to meet her in the next life
We will not cut up her dreams again like a knife
To understand her better was all that she needed
Trust and faith in her should have been seeded
The rare Gem would have shone brighter
Because she was such a fighter
Her dreams would have without doubt been fully accomplished
For Pauline this is all she would have wished
A gem, so rare, so precious
So frank, rarely ever cautious
When delivering the truth so raw
When shooting facts so soar
She was a gem, glowing with a ball in hand
A soul gifted with a precious talent
Passionate and dedicated to say the least
On the court, she was a furious beast
Oh how we have lost a soul, beautiful and promising
She stood bold and tall, always delivering
Never afraid to fight for what she believed
Never hid the colours of how she lived
Never hesitant off and on the game
Never will we find such a rare gem
Her crying voice may have been mistaken for war cries
And her roaring noise ended in soreness’ sighs
It’s most certainly going to be impossible
To ever deem her replaceable
And memories of her shall linger and stay
For a very long time throughout our days
Her impact, unmatched, unique and rare
No one is ever going to replace her…
