Malawi. (News of The South)- The Technical Entrepreneurial Vocational and Education Training Authority (Teveta) has commended the role the media plays in contributing towards significant reduction of unemployment through awareness of it’s technical skills programs which is the basis for sustainable socioeconomic growth and development.
TEVETA Executive Director, Wilson Makulumiza Nkhoma was speaking in Mzuzu on Friday during a day long interaction with the media under the northern region umbrella body, Nyika Media Club(NMC).

Nkhoma said there is an increase in the number of youth enrollment with currently over 6000 students selected to various vocational trades as compared to only 400 artisans who were being selected to various Technical Colleges before Teveta was instituted in the country in 1999.
“It is quite very commendable to see the significant role the media has played in expanding the operations of Teveta in the country, this is evident looking at the sharp rise in number of those boys and girls selected to undergo vocational trainings in the past 20 years if Teveta existence in Malawi,” Nkhoma said.
In his remarks, the NMC representative, Alex Banda commended the TEVET Authority in it’s drive to end youth unemployment and said the media is always there in informing the public on initiatives being taken to uplift people’s lives.
“We don’t take this partnership with Tevet for granted, we really appreciate for this timely initiative which has seen journalists from our media family being sharpened in reporting on vocational and labour issues in general,” Banda said.
Established in 1999, Tevet has gone through a number of reform programs so as to meet demands of the country in providing a skilled labour force that will spearhead socioeconomic growth and development in line with Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MDGS) as stipulated in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
