Tendai Biti Attacks Grace Mugabe’s Buhera Rally Statements
Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Tendai Biti has castigated Grace Mugabe’s remarks that Zimbabweans could vote for President Mugabe in the 2018 election even if he were dead.
The First Lady’s statements were delivered during a rally in Buhera at the weekend as she embarks on another round of rallies in support of President Mugabe’s candidacy in the 2018 elections.
Responding to the shocking statements Biti said the First Lady’s remarks were contemptuous in regards to the country’s population.
“The suggestion that Zimbabweans will vote for a corpse is contemptuous, cynical, abusive and arrogant. What is wrong with these people?’
Biti said the remarks though literally madness contained a metaphorical truth.
“In actual fact what she said is true because we have been voting for this moving corpse for a long time”, he said.
The PDP leader who signed into the Coalition of Democrats (CODE) coalition of opposition parties that includes Welshman Ncube, Elton Mangoma, Simba Makoni and six others last week, also accused ZANU PF of doling out goods seized by Zimra.
“It’s illegal for Zanu and the obnoxious Grace to capture goods seized by Zimra meant for customs rummage and distribute at rallies”, he said.
However Minister of Higher Education Prof Jonathan Moyo chose to be philosophical about the shocking statements by the First Lady saying it’s a matter of legacy.
“It’s a fundamental legacy question that can and will only be ignored by those who want to commit politicide at the polls in 2018 and beyond”.
“Maybe you are being anti-intellectual or you’re ignorant about the power of legacies but Karl Marx who died in 1883 is better than your lot”, he said.
The First Lady has begun going around the country in a tour reminiscent of last years’ Meet The People rallies.
In the context of the current factional fights in ZANU PF the rallies have served as an eye opener, revealing much of the First family’s viewpoint about the frictions that have set the stage for dramatic events come 2018.
