Former Harare Mayors Engineer Oliver Mandishona Chidawu, Engineer Elias Mudzuri and Alderman Jabulani Thembani pledged to join hands with the city council to restore Sunshine city status at a luncheon held to honour formers hosted by the current Harare Mayor Mr Bernard Manyenyeni.

Honouring the former city fathers, Mayor Manyenyeni admitted that many traditions which for the past years have been used to address challenges faced by the city have been lost and it was by re engaging with the former Mayors that they may track on how they lost it and how they can restore it.

Speaking at the occasion Mayor Manyenyeni said cities and towns all over Zimbabwe should take advantage of former mayors and exploit the vast dealt and experience they have for better service delivery.

“As a council we thinks there are important ideas you may assist us with particularly traditions we are sure have lost over time,” said Manyenyeni.

“We think its a opportunity for the mayor to compare notes with those who served in office as mayors,” he added.

The former Sunshine City of glory have lost standards for the past years with struggles to meet up service delivery standards which were once typical of the former city.

When one talks of poor service delivery on waste management, Harare is the place, when one talks of water shortages, Harare is the place, when one talks of poor standard at municipality service providers which include clinics, parks and libraries, Harare is the place. Will Harare return to its former glory? Yes was the answer from former city father who have pledged to work hand in hand to ensure the standard is restored.
