Sunderland booked their place in the final of the Capital One Cup against Manchester City courtesy of crucial 2-1 spot kick win Old Trafford last night.
Rafael had his penalty saved by the rumoured United target goalkeeper which saw three players finding back of the net after Manchester United won the second leg 2-1.
On the 37th minute Jonny Evans put Man United ahead with a beautiful header from close range, but United were required to hang on to their lead for 30 minutes but their hopes were shattered after David de Gea shovelled Phil Bardsley’s strike the net.
With two minutes to spare, Javier Hernandez sent the game to the penalties from close range, but Monnone made the save to book Sunderland a spot in their first League Cup final since 1985 season.
The embattled David Moyes made several changes to United’s team with Hernandez and Darren Fletcher coming in for United.
