Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of the South)- Standardisation of goods remains the key instrument in enterprise development and in allowing initiatives to incorporate into global value chains, ZimTrade CEO has said.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of a business cooperation MoU between ZimTrade and Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) yesterday, ZimTrade Chief Executive Officer S Pilime said standards are key in the export market as it allows products to sell in international markets after it reaches recommended certain quality standards.

“Standards are very key in export market for your products to manage to sell in the international markets as it must meet certain quality standards and other regulatory measures.

“Standards are an important instrument in enterprises to integrate into global value chains. In horticulture for example, increases in the overall level of compliance with quality can improve productivity, yield and revenues from agricultural produce and exports.

“Also, when farming practices and systems are similar to those in targeted export markets, through conformance to standards-related requirements, there is a higher likelihood of integrating into
international supply chains and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI),” she said.

She said Zimbabwe should imitate other countries in standardising their exporting goods so as to enter into the international markets.

“Mauritius recently went excelled on the World easy of doing business and already they have put up a statement that their export facilities has improved and we need also to do that.
