News of the South HARARE – St John’s College Board of Governors Chairperson, Charles Msipa has resigned after they received threats of legal action following their decision to allow just resigned Deputy Headmaster Neal Hovelmeier to announce at a special assembly that he is gay.
The board however, did not announce who will take over from Msipa but in a letter to the college stakeholders they said they will advise of a new chairperson when they have one in place.
“The resignation is by mutual agreement of the Board of Governors and Mr Msipa.
“We would like to thank Mr Msipa for serving the Board for eight years and for his contribution to the school during his tenure. We wish him well in future endeavours.
“The Board will advise of the incoming Chairman n due course,” read part of the letter.
They went on to promise that they will work hard at dealing with the current issues for the good of the schools they serve.
Hovelmeier came out last week to students in the school hall and said they had inspired him to reveal his sexual orientation.
He also released a press statement confirming this and said he is proud of being gay.

Meanwhile there have been photos of unidentified St John’s College students circulating on social media raising concerns in the education sector over homosexual attributes at the school.
