Zimbabwe, Harare.(News Of The South) – President Robert Mugabe dressed down his government’s recently-appointed chief spindoctor Professor Jonathan Moyo, calling him a “pest that has invaded the granary” and must be removed from Zanu PF.
Speaking during the Heroes Acre burial of former information minister Nathan Shamuyarira, President Mugabe accused Moyo of being “divisive”.
“We now have weevils in our midst,” the President said. “Zanu PF has weevils within its ranks. Can we keep weevils in Zanu PF? No!”
President Mugabe accused Moyo of abusing the powerful information portfolio to attack individuals instead of using it to “promote government programmes”.
“Don’t plant seeds of division among the people. Don’t make anyone in the party a political enemy,” Mr Mugabe said.
He accused Moyo, a political science professor, of misdirecting his education to bring others down.
“Education must make you humble,” President Mugabe said. “It is a damned fool who says, ‘I know all that needs to be known’.”
Moyo has clashed publicly with other Cabinet members, often publishing views that vary with official party policies. He has also been criticised for appointing characters previously associated with opposition groups to senior media positions, often firing Zanu PF members.
