South African Airways (SAA) has from today, resumed its regional flights. This comes after a four day halt which was caused by a massive strike by some of its employees.
SAA will for now be servicing six regional routes which include, Accra (Ghana), Lagos (Nigeria), Lusaka (Zambia), Maputo (Mozambique), Windhoek (Namibia) and Harare (Zimbabwe).
This is in addition to all SAA’s International flights, which are now fully operational. Customers booked to travel on SAA’s international services will now be able to travel as booked.
Philip Saunders, SAA’s Chief Commercial Officer said, “we are pleased that SAA is now able to increase services and to offer our customers more flights on the African continent, and that all our International flights are back on schedule. It is also important to assure SAA customers that our operations are safe and that the airline will never compromise on this core responsibility.”
A damaging strike by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa and the South African Cabin Crew Association has so far cost, the state owned airline R200 million (approximately US$13 million) due to cancelled flights since Friday.
SAA said it will seek to rebook customers travelling on other regional routes on the African continent wherever possible.
“SAA is continuing to work with its partner airlines, Mango and SA Airlink, to rebook all customers travelling on domestic services for Tuesday 19 November 2019 and Wednesday 20 November 2019.
SAA customers are requested not to travel to their departure airport unless they are in possession of a rebooked itinerary,” said SAA in a statement.
Moreover, customers seeking a refund or wishing to rebook their travel on a future SAA service have until 30 November 2019 to finalise their arrangements.
