South Africa. (News of The South) Following a string of improperly refereed matches the Premier Soccer League (PSL) is now considering using Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Almost in every round of matches played in the PSL so far, there has been some contentious match officiating decisions and this has also seen some coaches being charged by the PSL disciplinary committee for comments made in challenging these match officiating decisions.
Speaking at the PSL’s Annual General Meeting yesterday PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza said, VAR could go a long way towards solving the match officiating crisis which has engulfed the PSL in the first four months of the 2019/2020 season.

According to Khoza, there is already a meeting in place with the South African Football Association (Safa) to discuss the matter further.

“We are going to have a meeting with Safa and one of the things we are going to discuss is the introduction of the VAR.”

So far, the Botola Premier League in Morocco is the only professional league that has implemented the technology in Africa.
