MOGADISHU- Somali`s Ambassador Mohamed Ali Ameeriko returned home on Sunday after being recalled by the federal government in protest of the recent arrest of Somali consular to Kenya.
Ambassador Ameeriko was highly received at Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle international airport by deputy foreign minister Mahad Mohamed Salad and key other government officials.
The recalled ambassador told a press conference upon arrival at airport that Somali government ordered him to return home immediately to give more explanation about the consular’s arrest and in generally the living standards of Somalis in Kenya.
“We have recalled the ambassador back home to consult with him about what reaction the Somali government will take about the arrest of our consular in Nairobi on Friday” Deputy foreign minister Mahad Mohamed Salad told a joint news conference at the airport on Sunday.
Kenyan forces raided the home of Somali consular in Nairobi on Friday and arrested him for more than 5 hours, before he was released after successive efforts by Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur Ameeriko.
This was part of the massive arrests targeting Somali community in Kenya including Kenyan born ethnic Somalis, but Somali parliament speaker said Saturday that the detention of such high profile diplomat was unacceptable.
