Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Serena Williams, the female world number two tennis player, has fallen pregnant with her first child and is set to miss three Grand Slam tournaments according to media reports.
The tennis great who is set to return to world number one when new rankings under the WTA Special Ranking Rule, are released on Monday announced the news on social media.
According to a BBC report “the 35 year old posted a picture of herself on Snapchat posing in a mirror with the message: ‘20 weeks’ before deleting the post”.
“If confirmed, the American, who won a record 23rd Grand Slam in Australia in January, will miss most of the remaining tennis season”, it said.
Williams is engaged to the co-founder of community news and chat sire Reddit, Alexis Ohanian.
According to the dates she has released, Serena’s baby will be born during this year’s US Open which means she will miss three Grand Slams-the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
Notable about the news is the fact that Serena apparently won her 23rd Slam title at the Australian Open roughly whilst eight weeks pregnant.
Serena is top of the all-time list of major winners since Grand Slams accepted professional players in 1968 and is second only to Margaret Courts on the list of all-time Grand Slam singles titles leaders.
She has been voted the greatest female tennis player of all time on various platforms.
