Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Chuck Palahniuk’s novel, turned into a movie in 1999, Fight Club is one esoteric ball of reality and fantasy; grit and salve-like personality intercourse and a whole lot of character clashes that leave the viewer with a frothing tumbler of feelings and emotions.

On one hand you feel for The Narrator being manipulated around by the cocky Tyler Durden, but then again is Tyler real or a machination of the progenitor’s imagination?

Flipside, you hate The Narrator for his weak style and love it when he gets a black eye for his troubles.

The thud-landing of fists on his naked face during fights satiates a satanic hollow of your insides.

Same side you hate The Narrator for his insensitive patronization of sick people in empowerment groups fraternizing (falsely) with testicle-less man and cancer patients in his quest to find a purpose/initiative or is it living-cause.

Back to reality with Joyce Mujuru about to be a Saviour come 2018, Mugabe a vexing old man whose place in history you can’t define to your satiation and Tsvangirai a sickly hero short of aces up the sleeve as the movie runs out, Zimbabwe becomes one huge Fight Club.

Who is the hero and who is the nemesis?

What is real and what is conjured hope walking in the private media as reality?

Are we not an insomniac population (like The Narrator) sleepwalking through pantomimes of political play that will leave us where we started off?

How real are the camps of Lacoste and G40’s to the destination which Zimbabwe is taking?

What about the discarded and expired war veterans metamorphosing into liberal grannies?

And the revolutionaries armed with flowers and stones. Are they what the private media says or they are simply hired hooligans and vandals?

Is Joyce Mujuru Fat Bob with large swaddling tits into which the progenitor cries?

“Bob cries because six months ago his testicles were removed. Then hormone support therapy. Bob has tits because his testosterone ration is too high. Raise the testosterone level too much, your body ups the estrogen to seek a balance”, Chuck writes.

The irony of how Mujuru, a ZANU cadre to the bone, has managed or is managing to recreate herself as a victim of circumstances worth our pity as she swaddles us in a frothy embrace of enlarged political tits rebalanced as an opposition after the castration from ZANU is worth a chuckle.

From an outsider perspective it’s the same type of comedic pity we feel for the real Fight Club Bob (Meat Loaf) as we watch him sobbing in the movie whilst holding onto the tiny frame of The Narrator.

We have not sobbed as such watching Mujuru but we have shed tears internally as we empathised with her soulless chucking out of ZANU. (She says she retired by the way)

The pitiful reality of the situation is that what is real and what is fantasy will only come out come 2018 when the elections are held.
