Harare, Zimbabwe  (News of Harare)  – I n a ceremony held at State House today, Lieutenant General (Retired) Anselem Sanyatwe was officially sworn in as the new Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture. The appointment comes following the departure of Kirsty Coventry, who was recently elected as the President of the International Olympic Committee.

 

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice Presidents Dr. Constantino Chiwenga and Cde Kembo Mohadi, along with other senior government officials.



After taking his oath of office, Minister Sanyatwe addressed the media, expressing his gratitude for the appointment and outlining his vision for the ministry. He acknowledged the significant contributions of his predecessor, Kirsty Coventry, and pledged to build upon her legacy.

 

“I am deeply honored to be entrusted with this important responsibility,” Minister Sanyatwe stated. “I recognize the immense work done by Minister Coventry, who has elevated the profile of sports and arts in our nation. My aim is to continue this momentum and further develop these crucial sectors.”

 

Minister Sanyatwe emphasized his commitment to fostering a vibrant sporting culture, supporting local artists, and promoting recreation for all Zimbabweans. He highlighted the importance of investing in grassroots development, providing adequate resources for athletes and artists, and creating an enabling environment for talent to flourish.

 

“We will work tirelessly to ensure that our athletes and artists have the necessary support to excel on both national and international platforms,” he said. “We will also focus on making sports and arts accessible to everyone, regardless of their background.”

 

The new Minister also expressed his eagerness to collaborate with various stakeholders, including sports federations, arts organizations, and the private sector, to achieve the ministry’s objectives. He called for unity and collective effort in driving the growth and development of sport, recreation, arts, and culture in Zimbabwe.

 

The appointment of Lieutenant General Sanyatwe marks a new chapter for the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture. With his wealth of experience and commitment to national development, he is expected to steer the ministry towards greater heights and ensure the continued progress of these vital sectors.
