I admire the resoluteness of SA chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, on his scepticism of COVID-19 vaccines.
I have always had a serious problem with people who lamely accept everything and anything they are told – no matter how much their may trust the one providing this information – without bothering to conduct their own independent background research…as much as is humanly possible.
This world has become infested with those who select to swallow hook, line, and sinker whatever is uttered by scientists, politicians, religious leaders, and even teachers, parents, etc – without seeking further collaborative evidence.
I’m not saying we need to be paranoid, and be suspicious of everything we hear – but, a wise person should be able to say, “What you are saying could be the truth, but let me just carry out my own independent background investigations and research, to ascertain all the facts”.
If only we could do that, we would be a much wiser people, who are not only rarely deceived, but also possess abundant knowledge.
Let’s also not forget that, even if not everyone is out to cheat us – but, even those who may do things in good faith, also make mistakes and have their own limitations as human beings.
Therefore, our own independent research can open us up to new facts and knowledge, that we would, otherwise, not have obtained from those whom we rely on for such. – Tendai Ruben Mbofana
