Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are honoured to help fulfill their roles as President and Vice President respectively, of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

The commonwealth grew out of the British Empire, and is headed by Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry’s grandmother.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle say that we must acknowledge the ‘uncomfortable’ past of the commonwealth.

“It’s not going to be easy” but the world must “right the wrongs,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said to the young campaigners.
The two say that there is no way we can move forward unless we acknowledge the past.
Over the course of a call with important world leaders Harry and Meghan reflected on institutional racism.

The Duke of Sussex said, “When it comes to institutional and systemic racism, it’s there and it stays there because someone somewhere is benefitting from it.”

“We can’t deny or ignore the fact that all of us have been educated to see the world differently. However, once you start to realize that there is that bias there, then you need to acknowledge it, you need to do the work to become more aware.”

He also went on to say, “Equality does not put anyone on the back foot, it puts us all on the same footing- which is a fundamental human right.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson also said the country needed to do more to end racial injustice.

“I think that the UK has made incredible progress, just in my lifetime, or just in the last 20 years or so.”
“That doesn’t mean we’ve done enough, and we’ve got to keep doing better.”
