Malawi (News of The South) – Unknown assailants are reported to have petrol bombed the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regional office for the south in Blantyre.
An eye witness told the Country Star News Online (CSNO) reporter who visited the scene in the wee hours of Monday, that he saw the MCP office up in flames at around 22:00 hours on Sunday.
Commenting on the development the MCP official in the region Moses Kunkuyu he suspects this to be an act of arson from some quarters who don’t wish his party well.
“We are receiving death threats in each and every single passing day, so I cannot rule out a case of arson in this act which I believe should come from some assailants who don’t wish our party well,” Kunkuyu said.
There is no immediate comment from the police as officials at the Southern Region Police Headquarters office were not picking their phones despite numerous efforts we made to get their side of the story.
However Kunkuyu has disclosed that the office can not immediately be used as property worth huge sums of money has been destroyed in the infernal.
The political situation is gradually becoming tense in the country as some political sympathisers are continuing to demonstrate in protest against allegation of mismanagement of the presidential election results.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has asked Malawians to continue demonstrating on Tuesdays and Thursdays in order to force the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson, Jane Ansah to resign.
