Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Pharmaceutical companies and research centres around the world are working on Covid-19 vaccines, with large global trials under way involving thousands of participants willing to take part in the trials.
Some companies are close in on unveiling their initial findings with the Canadian and European regulators, who are already reviewing early data on some vaccines against the coronavirus which destroyed millions of people.
US drug maker Pfizer Inc with German partner BioNTech SE, US biotech Moderns Inc and UK based AstraZeneca Plc together with University of Oxford researchers could provide early analysis of data from their various large trials and with this information, hope has been installed in people.
Some scientists are busy looking at ways to improve the outlook for anyone who is infected with the virus and one of their major interest concerns diet and lifestyle.
At the early stages of the virus when it first attacked, the elderly or those with co-existing conditions such as heart problems, diabetes, overweight were much affected as these conditions are usually rooted in poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, said Professor Rob Thomas.
In the meantime, the vaccine news has given hope to many but some researchers are saying that, first a vaccine for stopping the spread of the virus would be required, that will protect us against contracting and or spreading the virus.
So the race to finding the vaccine is far from ending as a lot still needs to be done.
