British Queen’s ‘racist’ Knighthood Honour comes under spotlight
LONDON, United Kingdom. (News of the South)- Sir Michael Palin is advancing the idea to redesign the St George’s knighthood medal after it has been named as ‘racist’ and inappropriate.
The Order of St Michael and St George is awarded by the Queen to ambassadors and diplomats for distinguished service.
The Queen’s honor has found itself under scrutiny as it, ‘looks like George Floyd’s murder.’
The Monty Python star was awarded the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George but said the image on the medal was “inappropriate and offensive.”
The image on the medal is meant to show the Archangel Micheal defeating Satan but concerns have been raised that it looks similar to the murder of George Floyd that occurred a few months ago in Minnesota USA.
The image on the medal had initially shown a white angel standing on the neck of a black man, however in 2011 it was changed to feature a white devil.
Sir Simon Woolley, the director of Operation Black Vote said, “The original image may have been of St Michael slaying Satan, but the figure has no horns or tail and is clearly a black man.”
An online petition calling for the redesign of the badge on the honour has attracted more than 2000 signatures.
The Governor General of Jamaica Sir Patrick Allen has refused to wear his medal together with Sir Michael.
