Harare. – The government’s purported dismissal of Nurses is tantamount to madness of the worst order and monumental labour injustice.
It is important to note that an employer let alone government can not push the clock backwards to the Master and Servant Act of the colonial period. The nurses gave notice to embark on industrial action and can therefore not be summarily dismissed without giving a show cause order.
The dismissal is therefore a legal nullity, vogue and vacuous. The government must learn to address the legitimate demands of workers. If the intention is to strike fear in the impeding teachers’ strike, let government be reminded that yanyangira yaona. There is no going back in terms of our clamour for better salaries, increase of rural and hardships allowance, vacation leave, security at work place and myriads of responsible allowances. The earlier the government addresses these issues the better. We will not be intimidated and neither do we eat threats. It’s game on against systematic educational vandalism. For restoration of our status and dignity, let alone playing a vital cog for national development we must show that we are everything and government is taking us for a ride
