1 0Ptuz Position on Invigilation of June Exams
28 June 2020
Yesterday Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education presented a rosy picture of level of preparedness in schools, backed by provincial, district and school heads’ reports.
They also presented that the first family has pledged to fumigate all schools and universities have donated more than 10 000 litres of sanitizers ready for distributions to schools that could not afford.
The truth is all these presentations were done in chambers where no trade union representatives were invited.
As a way forward, we stand where we stood in the past that there is a difference in what Ministry claims to be prevailing in schools and what is existing in schools.
We are faced with an issue of life and death and need a reasonable response. As Ptuz we are trying by all means to have a meeting of all union leaders on Monday so that we can have a common response as teachers.
We also encourage teachers to discuss this dilemma across union and non union divide in their various school chat groups.
Once more I urge teachers to talk our walk and walk our talk. Trade unionism is a question of abiding by our resolution and not passing brilliant resolutions which you would not walk.
Once more may we remind teachers that we are not employed by Zimsec and are not duty bound to risk our health, safety and welfare for this parastatal.
At this 11th hour we encourage members to forward their suggestions to district leaders, and district leaders to their provincial leaders and provincial leaders to national leaders as a matter of urgency.
The cause of health, safety and welfare can not be surrendered even at the last moment of possible defeat. At any rate defeat is temporary but giving up makes it permanent. We have lives to protect and the choice over life and death must be clear unless we are ready to pass a death sentence over the teaching profession.
Venceremos
