Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-Professor Jonathan Moyo has sparked off another front in his fight against Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa by ridiculing the news by Zimbabwe Tourism CEO Karikoga Kaseke, that Toursim ministry could adopt Command Tourism, saying the idea is utter nonsense.

Speaking at the Hlanganani/Sanganai 10th anniversary launch in Bulawayo on Thursday, ZTA chief executive, Karikoga Kaseke said plans were underway to introduce command tourism and Tourism minister Walter Mzembi had welcomed the idea.

“I was talking to the minister that why don’t we introduce command tourism”.

“We must introduce command tourism so that those who are doing what we don’t want to do they should stop. They will be commanded to stop,” he told delegates.

However Prof Moyo, who is on record stating that Command as an economic style won’t work in the country was dismissive of Kaseke’s idea after being asked if his ministry could also adopt the same.

“Never, ever. Science is very unkind to that kind of nonsense which can only come from people with bogus academic qualifications”, he said.

The attack on Kaseke’s academic qualifications follows the ZTA boss’s acceptance of an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from the Commonwealth University in collaboration with London Graduate School.

Command economics has become one of VP Mnangagwa’s hallmark ideologies with his Command Agriculture Programme drawing much attention and equally acerbic attacks from Moyo.

In a command economy, the government, rather than the free market, determines what goods must be produced, how much should be produced, and the price at, which the goods must be sold. In other words, the State and not the market, determines the production and distribution of goods.

Moyo has maintained his opposition to that type of economy and Mnangagwa in particular and on Sunday stated openly that his previous support for the VP had been a mistake.

“Charamba, oops Bishop Lazarus, I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. My support for Mnangagwa in 2004 was wrong”, he said on Twitter whilst responding to alleged attacks from George Charamba in the Nathaniel Manheru column published by state media.
