Prof Moyo Goes Silent After Anti-Kasukuwere Demo
Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)-In the aftermath of demonstrations against Saviour Kasukuwere, his supposed ally in G40, Higher Education minister Professor Jonathan Moyo has uncharacteristically gone silent on his usual twitter platform saying little about the whole mess.
This silence on Kasukuwere’s plight has come across as very strange for Moyo who has carved a strong social media following due to his penchant and quickness to jump into commenting on just about any and every political happening in the country.
Hundreds of ZANU PF members took to the streets of Bindura on Monday demonstrating against Kasukuwere whom they accused of trying to capture party structures via candidate impositions.
Kasukuwere’s ultimate objective is reportedly of advocating for an Extraordinary Zanu-PF Congress ahead of next year’s harmonised elections to replace the party’s President and First Secretary, Cde Mugabe, who has since been endorsed by provinces as the party’s sole candidate.
State media reported that “Cde Kasukuwere also invited the wrath of Women’s League members for allegedly trying to block their countrywide demonstrations against their Deputy Secretary Cde Eunice Nomthandazo Moyo and Finance Secretary Cde Sarah Mahoka”.
However Prof Moyo who has time and again stood with Kasukuwere against alleged opponents whom he calls successionists and believed to be the Lacoste camp led by VP Mnangagwa, has withdrawn into a silence that could well be read as fear.
The usually voluble Moyo who comments on everything and engages a variety of personalities through his twitter account simply put out two statements that remained guarded and philosophical, betraying a seemingly fearful stance as things seem to be turning against his perceived faction.
“In political science, man is zoon politikon & politics is life & life is politics; but in the real world there’s more to life than politics!” he said in a stark drawback to his usual robust attacks on anything and anyone.
Responding to an allegation that the demonstration against Kasukuwere had the blessings of President Mugabe, Moyo was vehement in refusing giving out a veiled accusation that was as vague as it was it was impotent.
“You are telling an evil lie to justify an evil plot. It’s known who you are, who you work with & who you are work for. Evil never succeeds!” he charged.
Factional battles in ZANU PF have of late taken a new twist with the G40 which appeared to be gaining an upper hand on Lacoste suddenly thrown into a lurch after the sudden dismissals of supposed members such as Women’s League Vice Eunice Sandi Moyo and Finance Secretary Sarah Mahoka in the week prior to the demo against Kasukuwere.
