(News Of The South) – We all have a to-do list, which has a number of all the plans we need to execute. But it’s not every time that we actually do so. Sometimes we do just that and sometimes we don’t, put all the plans on hold for tomorrow, only for tomorrow and to come and we postpone them for later. That way we won’t cross them off our to-do list. Overtime this postponement of action becomes a regular habit. In short, that’s procrastination. But procrastination is more than just a 15 letter word, it is a disease that has robbed most people of their potential, their dreams and has wrecked a perfectly planned future for many. It has created an illusion of time, time which comes and goes and we don’t have a do over.

We live in a YOLO moment, while the term YOLO (You Only Live Once) has been associated with a more crazy kind of living; it comes from the fact that once we have lost hold of time, we never have another chance to use that time more productively. We may have the chance to do what we planned to do later, but that time we would have lost is gone for good, and this time we will be using for our own do over, would have better been used in something else, had we originally disciplined ourselves to sticking to our own schedules.

Of all the resources that we have in life, time is the one that’s more limited than anything else. But of all human action, we seem to be oblivious to the fact that one day we will all run out of time. We only have 24 hours a day, while they seem to be many, sometimes the day ends and you will be shocked at how little you have completed against a long list of all the things that you wanted to.

I am a great procrastinator. I am easily destructed, especially when I am writing when I have to research the internet for some facts, I always end up mixed into something else that doesn’t have anything to do with what I will be writing at the moment. Sometimes I bounce back and finish of what I was working on, sometimes I don’t. If anything, procrastination has robbed me of many opportunities.

The most disturbing thing to note is that, procrastination, and not lack of talent and ambition, has robbed many people of golden opportunities. They say opportunities knock only once, but how can you grab that opportunity once it knocks at your door, when you are constantly hitting the snooze button.

Like any other disease, there is a cure for procrastination, and it’s a simple one. Instead of putting things on hold, create a habit of doing things. Procrastination is a habit in itself, it needs a habit in the opposite direction to conquer it.

It’s not worthy it living a life full of regret, especially if you are the reason why you didn’t make it. It’s better to look at life and say, “Why did I do that,” than to wake up every morning full of regret.

We are all born with limited time. While some other things may last forever, we won’t. And in as much as it is relaxing to fantasize of the probability of living forever, we won’t. We will all die one day, and that will put an end to all the things we wanted to do. So instead, of looking back and crying over spilt milk, it’s better to look back and reflect on a life well lived. There is no better time to start living that life than today, make a habit of motivation yourself into doing the things that you love to do the most. Give no room to procrastinating thoughts that have created an illusion of time in your mind.

It’s not that the urge to procrastinate won’t hit you; it always will, but the greatest gift the god lord has given us is the ability to control our own actions. I mean sometimes it is good to believe in fate, hoping that things that are meant for us will always find us no matter what, but nothing on this earth comes easy, we have to work hard for them. Procrastination is a thief stealing from us, like all the buglers that we have put to jail; we should do the same to this robber of opportunities. Let’s not entertain procrastination, instead, make a habit of doing things. Its only through doing that our luck increases. After all, fortune favors the brave; today make a bold move of kicking procrastination to the curb. It won’t be easy, but it’s worth it. Good luck!!!
